When Tep’s tail starts wagging and she starts moving around a certain patch, you will be able to sniff at a handful of dirt, “Smell it, it’s special.” And it is, that ethereal elixir of perfume and earthiness that only truffles have.

The truffle is one of the best condiments which can be used in the kitchen. It is advisable to use it fresh. When fully ripe it best displays its qualities. Each variety of truffle has its own particular, typical aroma, which is suitable for specific culinary uses.

Would you like to live a special and unique experience? Join our truffle hunt with Irene and her dog, Tep, and savor the real and unique emotion of finding, smelling, and touching one of the most precious and sought fruits of the earth. Our authorized guide will guide you through the paths of the woods of Tuscany, telling you stories and legends related to the territory and the practice of truffle hunting. She will teach you to recognize the trees under which they grow, the ideal habitat for the growth of truffles, and how to cook and store them. The search will take time and patience, but when you will see Tep start wagging his tail and sniffing insistently near a bush or the root of a tree, sticking his nose in the ground deeper and deeper and digging, it will only mean one thing: the treasure has been discovered! And Tep will finally receive a greedy reward for the excellent work done.

We can not know how many truffles Tep will be able to find, but one thing is sure: after fun and tiring walk you will return to the starting point, at our Villa, where you can also receive your well-deserved reward!

It will be time to taste delicious recipes based on precious truffles, combined with excellent local wines. We will select for you a typical menu of the Tuscan culinary tradition, able to enhance the sophisticated scent with simple courses.

The harvest concern especially the White Truffle (Tuber magnatum Pico), the highest quality, and subsequently other species variously widespread in the territory, like the Tartufo Marzuolo or Bianchetto (Tuber Albidum Pico or Tuber Borchii Vittadini), the Tartufo Nero Estivo “Scorzone”, Tartufo Uncinato (Tuber uncinatum Chatin), il Tartufo Nero Pregiato (Tuber melanosporum Vittadini) e il Tartufo Nero d’Inverno (Tuber brumale Vittadini).

The forest is a sacred place for the truffle hunter where every day we are “guests” and not “the owners”: for this reason, before starting the Truffle Experience” we need to have a little briefing with our guests! You’ll enjoy some hours walking through woods, picking truffles along with a special guide, also an expert, but mostly a friend who will teach how to find truffles with her wonderful and inseparable dog Tep.

Today, dogs (known as “truffle hounds”) are commonly used for gathering truffles in place of truffle hogs, as pigs have been known to eat too many truffles in the field. Unlike pigs, dogs have no natural affinity for truffles, and must be specially scent to locate them.
