BARGINO ANTINORI CHIANTI CLASSICO WINERY
Antinori is a noble family with winemaking roots dating back 26 generations, Antinoris have occupied one of the great palaces in Florence, designed by Giuliano da Maiano, since 1506. So the bar for the design of the company’s new headquarters was high. From the highway, you can miss the new headquarters as the building hides in plain sight, buried into — literally inside — a hill. The architecture doesn’t just occupy the landscape, it becomes the landscape. The panoramic terrace is shaded by a curved deeply cantilevered canopy that is partly camouflaged under rows of young vines.
Once you’re inside, the place turns out to be a soaring, light-filled work of contemporary design. At 540,000 square feet, includes a winery, a 200-seat auditorium (with custom-designed womblike comfy chairs in keeping with the standards of Italian high style), a museum, a restaurant and a shop. These are a series of sleek caves as big and somber as cathedrals — spectacular rooms tucked deep inside the hill and hidden behind discreet doors. To pass from the lobby through those doors is a little like discovering a 007 Spectre centre, no’s lair.
Choosing one of the guided tours, visitors will gain insight into the Antinori family history, see how a wine is produced and enjoy the winery’s innovative architecture. The tour culminates with a tasting of three of estate-grown wines.
OSTERIA DI PASSIGNANO RESTAURANT
If you want a high class experience in a beautiful place next to a huge medieval monastery, by all means go for it! The Antinori family owns the vineyards around the Abbey, from which the Chianti Classico Reserve wine “Badia a Passignano” is produced, and which is aged in the cellars beneath the monastery. The Osteria di Passignano rediscovers and represents the places so rich in tradition and passion for wine. Food remarkable. Wine list great.
LA BRACCESCA WINERY
A real life demonstration of Italy’s wine excellence. Beautiful landscapes, gorgeous wine facilities. Organization and service are simply top. Do not miss wine tasting and especially the Bramasole variety. This was one of our best wine tasting experiences. The winery grounds are breathtaking and even better is the fact that it is not overcrowded with people. You will receive a very personalized tour and tasting. A truely memorabile experience on your trip.
